I love Jeffrey Deaver's books - especially the Lincoln Rhyme series. This one was slightly disappointing at first because Amelia and Lincoln start off on different cases. It's been awhile since I had read the previous book in the series and it took some time to catch up. The main case was terrifying enough that I haven't taken an escalator since reading this book. (It didn't help that I had fallen down one as a child.)

I won this book as a giveaway, one of the first ones I entered. Jeffery Deaver's Lincoln Rhyme series is one of the best series of books I have ever read by any author. His latest creation did not disappoint, with twists and turns in all of the right places. I was disappointed at the beginning of the book when Lincoln Rhyme was not in his usual role, but the disappointment did not last long. The relationship between Rhyme and Sachs is always interesting, and the forensic details always amaze me. While The Steel Kiss is an enjoyable read, I cannot say it is the best book in the series, as The Vanished Man is still my favorite.

A good addition to the Lincoln Rhyme series; good not great. It has the usual twists that you'd expect from Jeffery Deaver, and there are so many things going on that you don't expect all of them.
Sachs has three things ongoing in this novel, Ron Pulaski something else, and so does Rhyme. As a result it felt stretched at times, but I guess that is what life is. You are busy with a lot of things both personal and professional, and so are other people. So perhaps it added some authenticity and it should not use it to fault the author or the book, but somehow the multi thread thing made it feel like a 3 star book and not the 4 or 5 star that a lincoln rhyme book should be. If only there was a way to add half stars, it would do the book more justice to be 3.5 stars.

The main case started out uninteresting (to me, anyway) but a twist ensured it did not stay that way for long.

First scene - man being ground up in the gears of an escalator. Enough to remind me why I can't read Deaver anymore.

A bit slow for a Jeffery Deaver book and definitely too slow for a Rhyme book. But I still enjoyed like I always will because, duhhh, it's 'Distinctively Deaver'.
