This novel is one of my favorite books within the current canon, and possibly within all of the Star Wars books I've read. Freed tells a compelling story with each character within "Alphabet Squadron" having their own arc. The mysteries as to what Caern Adan was up to, as well as what the main protagonist was lying about were compelling mysteries, and made me excited to read the book and figure out what happened.

This was a story of a squadron that had suffered loses at the hand of Shadow Wing in a Post Return of the Jedi. All the fighters are different and the commander is a recent imperial defector. This book filled in some gaps on what the imperial remnant doing pre-Jakku . It also shows us who wasn’t chosen for the first Order. We get great tie in to characters like Jyn Erso and Hera. A must read to Star Wars cannon fans.
