A story of a sinner's christian awakening written as an exposition on the criminal justice system of Russia at the turn of the twentieth century. You will be surprised by the sinners and criminals many times throughout the book. I had a small amount of difficulty with the Russian names, and their many forms and nicknames, and a little less trouble with a small amount of the French used in conversation by the aristocrats. An excellent read.
