a million ⭐️, and then some!

if you think the first book is immaculate, this book is that much better! (which is something that i didn't even know was possible until i finished reading this book) Lani Wendt Young keeps us on our toes in this book, the second instalment in the Telesa series.

"For as long as you love me, you’re always going to be in danger.”
“I’m ready for a lifetime of danger then. Are you? Because that’s how long I’m going to love you.”

i'm sorry, but i just love all of the little sappy moments that daniel and leila share throughout this book. from the emails/messages they send while they're apart to reuniting in the airport in Samoa and throughout the rest of the book. my hopeless romantic heart just loves reading about the two of them together, they are my OTP for life. i've said it before, and i will say it again: i am obsessed with daniel tahi and leila folger! they are just so beautiful.

i am sooo in love with the cultural representation in this book. as a young Samoan woman, i am very passionate about accurate representation and showcasing the beauty and heart of our culture, and these books do that and so much more. i am thankful to (finally) be able to read a book and visualise characters that are like me, right down to their core. from leila and daniel (two half-Samoans) to the older characters (Salamasina, Aunty Matile, Uncle Tuala), you can see the different aspects of the culture and the mindsets of the generations both past and future - an accurate depiction of how the different perspectives are in today's world.

one of my favourite elements (OBVIOUSLY!) in this storyline is the romance between daniel and leila - i'm actually obsessed with the two of them. in this book especially, i love how their story developed over time, and how they still remained true to each other despite the hurdles and obstacles thrown at them (and trust, there were A LOT in this book!)
Spoilerlike ummm, Keahi?! and also, the revenge plot by Sarona. AND Daniel's sudden vasa loloa powers that he discovers more in this book. yup, these characters definitely experienced a lot in this book, but your girl was here for it all!!
i will always be a daniel and leila girl, i just think it is so beautiful to read about 2 samoan teens trying to navigate everything and still find the ways to stay loyal and committed to one another. it's just beautiful. amazing. inspiring. heart-warming. i love them sm!!

there is so much to love about this book, all i can say to you is GO AND READ IT RIGHT NOW! i promise, you will not regret picking up these books, they're so good!

The same complaints as the first one- too many stereotypes, too much co-dependence, weird discourse about sex and physical assault. This one really drags in the middle too. Not sure if I can be bothered with the third one but I hat not finishing series... I did still like the descriptions, the slight flashes of feminism and the witchy shit.

EEEEE...just got my copy! Can't wait to read it! SO EXCITED!

Update: *Groans* oh man what just happened... "That moment when you finish a book, look around, and realise that everyone is just carrying on with their lives as though you didn't just experience emotional trauma at the hands of a paperback"...oh yea that's totally me right now. I know I am going to feel a book hangover tomorrow. For those who are not familiar with the term it is the inability to start a new book because you're still living in the last book's world...yea that's totally me too.

I planned to take this book slow...savour the story because this was a book I have been waiting to read FOR AGES and I will admit I squealed like a child when I got my copy in the mail...AND THEN I READ IT IN ONE DAY...good one Monica. So here I am recuperating from my traumatic emotional upheaval. This book had everything and more...AND I COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN.

I didn't think this series could get better...oh but wait...IT SO DID.

Thank you Lani for introducing me to this amazing story that makes ME PROUD to be a Pacific Islander. Thank you for showing me Lelia and Daniel's love story and thank you for introducing me to Simone (the most amazing person that I wish I was friends with!).

I can't wait to read the next book! Now I just have to survive the wait!

Happy Reading!

Such a great sequel to Telesa, and I was pleased that Daniel's history didn't go the way I expected.
