I really liked this novella, but I wish we got some tie into the rest of the series regulars somehow.

This was my favorite story in the Psy-changling world BY FAR. It may have been shorter, but it packed a punch. I shed a few tears and really hope I'll be seeing more of Stephan and Tazia in the future.

This was very different from the first two books - it's a human and Psy pairing for one, which really changed the dynamic. Not a mating situation but two people who've worked side by side for years. In addition, the Psy was a man for the first time and I don't know why, but for me that really changed the feel. And, significantly, there is no sex until basically the end and, for me, the way the fell in love without the sexual interactions was even better.

I loved the characters and the depth of their experience and growth, despite being a shorter story. I fell hard for them both and I will be very sad if we don't get more of them down the line.

I am so glad I was able to listen to this story, as Angela Dawe always does an incredible job bringing stories to life. She probably added a lot to my love of both these characters.

I'm so glad I decided to read the short stories along with the main books in this readalong.

Normally I find novellas unsatisfying, but this one was a great short and sweet read. I love Singh’s commitment to making sure that some many different kinds of characters/people are represented in this world.

It's such a wonderful novella but I'd totally take a full-length novel with these two!

This was a lovely little short story about Tazia Nerif (human) and Stefan (Telekinetic Psy) who work together on a deep sea research vessel. He's seemingly cold and unmoving and Tazia is brimming with live. But, there is some secret pining behind that ice cold facade. And watching these two discover new things about each other was wonderful.

Nalini Singh managed to pack so much into this short story - there is family dynamics and familial expectations, childhood trauma, and characters trying to find their place in the world Also, I really loved that this story featured a hero who wasn't this intense alpha male. The love between these two characters is a quiet and sincere love, but they are no less devoted to one another.

Three Thoughts:
1. I loved how respectful Stefan was of Tazia's values and family. He never pushed or judged - just supported her in whatever way she needed.
2. I liked that they were both virgins - and that their intimacy was not about technical skill or sexual prowess, but about connection with each other.
3. Stefan's line about saving Tazia's dress for their daughter "for she will not have to marry in secret" *swoon*

This was a wonderful short story and definitely worth reading for fans of the series.

content warnings: loss of a loved one (in the past), being disowned by family, earthquake (and resulting deaths), childhood trauma, sex (on page)

What I love most in Nalini's writing, besides the political plotting and the foreshadowing, is the vast cast of characters, and how wildly different those are. Tazia and Stephen are some of my favourites.
Definitely one of the best novellas in this world
