This book follows the story of a little girl faces adversity and becomes a beautiful piano player. She ends up playing for President Lincoln in the white house at a very young age. I think I would use this around President's Day or Lincoln's birthday as a diverse literature pick to help enrich the children's knowledge of the president.

For: music fans; readers wanting a brief bio that emphasizes the power of music.
Possible red flags: depictions of wartime; fleeing the country and being refugees; mentions of slavery and the death of a child.

Beautifully illustrated bilingual book depicting a little immigrant girls caught in a new world which only her music can console her while playing her piano. This story takes place during the civil war. This book can teach how music can uplift the spirit of people in times of need or during times of celebration, bringing people together by the sound of music.

The Lion of the piano is a well fitting name for Teresa. To be just 6 years old and have the ability to be so musical talent that although experiencing hardship, she still found the beauty in the world. This was also a story of what can happen when parents are give the resources and maturity to allow their children to grow and be who they are!
