Well, now. That's just not right. Childless woodland creature couple finds cute monster baby that eats their family, burps them up and is then traded in for a kitten. Nice. The one star is for the illustrations and the fact that it's a picture book that includes the phrase "special ointment."

Mr. & Mrs. Deer desperately want a baby of their own to "love and cuddle and read stories to," so when they find a baby in a basket on their doorstep they are thrilled to take it in. However, as they call in more and more animals to help figure out why the baby is roaring, they become more and more confused. I seriously laughed out loud at this one! Such fun. My story time kids are going to love it.

Quite funny, with the pictures adding to the story giving us the information needed about the baby to understand who he is.

This one is a bit strange. Did anyone else think the "kitten" at the end of the book looked like a disguised monster? Maybe that's the point?!

What a marvelously weird little book. I really thought I knew where it was going at one point, and then it completely surprised me, which is nice! Nonetheless, I didn’t totally love it–a little too quirky, maybe? Not sure. Regardless, it’s a fun book and I think would make a great readaloud.
