This book was slow at the start, but then it got REALLY good....The ending suprised me so much, I read the last 100 pages in like an hour! I really did like this book.

Welcome to my first 1-star review. It might be the worst one I’ve ever written, but this is also the worst book I’ve read in a long time, so it seems fair.
Grab a seat, have some tea.
I can’t believe I actually finished The summoning.
If I had to describe this book with one word, it'd be lacking.
It’s lacking interesting characters, lacking maturity and intrigue, lacking a solid plot.
Most of the time I try to find both pros and cons when it comes to books. I give credit where it’s due and explain the problems I had with it.
But I don’t know what to say about this first installment in The darkest powers trilogy.
It’s so terribly dull. Like a plain gray table. You can try and add some colorful decorations on top of it, hoping that your guests will walk by and say ’’Ooh, so unique!’', but it just doesn’t work.
Some other problems I had with the book.
The characters.
Our MC Chloe Saunders is a fifteen year old girl who sounds like she’s twelve.
Not because she makes terrible decisions or is whiny, but the writing is so simple, immature and emotionless that I pictured her as a tween.
Nothing about her was unique.
I remember that she was short (which seems to be the case in every YA book nowadays) and that she decided to put red streaks in her hair so she would be special and rebellious or something.
That’s pretty much it.
There were quite many characters, but none of them sparked my interest either.
Well, except for Derek, the only person besides the main character whose name was still clear.
Derek - the gigantic, moody, antisocial guy.
If you've watched Teen Wolf, then you know that Derek Hale is a werewolf. Well, guess what happens to this Derek?! Oh yeah, he turns into a fucking werewolf in the end. Not sure why. It just happened. BAM, he’s a werewolf!
Where the hell did that come from?
The length.
This novel is just about 400 pages. I would've preferred it to be 200. Really, not a lot happens.
If you were to ask me what The summoning is about, I'm afraid my answer would be ’'Some girl discovering that she can talk to ghosts.’
The person asking would be surprised and ask ’’Really? I thought you’d read the book.’'
To that I’d answer ’’I have. And it’s not something I want to remember.’'
You could blame this on my bad memory, but I don't think that's the reason why I couldn't recall the characters' names or personalities. I can still remember reading books from eight years ago, so why would this be any different?
It's because it's not worth remembering to me.

Sounds familiar? All you need to add is the last name Hale. Yes, the guy from Teen Wolf. That show is one of my guilty pleasures - Half-interesting plot and bad special effects and makeup, but a good cast of characters.If you've watched Teen Wolf, then you know that Derek Hale is a werewolf. Woaaaah! that was actually pretty amazing, breathtaking and mind blowing all at once! I love this book no I'm deeply in love! I'm so excited to start reading the next book!
