So, so dumb, and so, so enjoyable. Shaffer manages to capture the voice of the former VP (as I imagine it) perfectly, slipping dad jokes in between comments about the state of high-crime and opioid addiction epidemic in Delaware. He and Obama are (obviously) fun as hell to imagine lurking around cheap motels trying to solve crimes. Just, so stupid. So fun to read.

I love the idea of Obama and Biden fighting crime together, but I was not a fan of this execution. I think the character development could have used some work, and a lot of the dialogue seemed like page filler. It is hard to take actual public figures and transform them in a world of fiction, but taking on two such big names left A LOT to be desired. So many things they did were just not believable and the cover of the book does not match what actually played out in these pages. After being leaders of the free world, I would hope they would not be so careless in their approach to fighting a crime.

I'll be honest, I only picked up this book to fulfill a reading challenge since we don't have presidents in my country. The mystery portion was better than expected, I didn't guess the culprit until the author practically spelled it out for me. But..Barack came off as a jerk and Joe Biden as a bit senile. Not sure if it was intentional but I can't say it inspired me to want to meet them irl.

I wanted to like this more. When it hits the tone just right its really good. I can imagine Obama and Biden actually saying some of this stuff but when they miss it took me so out of it making it hard to read. I found myself skipping whole paragraphs sometimes sadly. The mystery was lacking any interest for me as well. The draw was fully when the tone hit.

I thoroughly enjoyed this tongue in cheek homage reuniting the former president and his right hand man to fight on the side of justice. I’m sure I would have enjoyed it even more if I wasn’t English and had a better knowledge and understanding of American politics
