I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Another fun and cute Kawaii Doodle book, how could I resist it when I saw it on Netgalley?

As the book says this one is all about cute stuff from around the world!

The first chapter is all about adorable (really, how could you eat them) food from all over the world. Pretzels from Germany, Tamales from Mexico, and Dumplings from China. And that is just a few of them! They look all delicious and adorable. And then there are chapters about architecture, clothes, daily cute stuff. There is something for everyone.

I have to say at times I found the doodles a bit well.. boring, and weird. Like a skirt? With eyes? Or the Eifel Tower with eyes? Eh? Why? It wasn’t even cute, nor do I think it was that fun. Plus I found it weird that some clothes didn’t get an extra character (human or beast) to it, but others did.

The doodles looked quite complicated at times, though the author did their best to explain everything as best as they could.

Just like the other Kawaii Doodle book I read this one has coloring pages that also double as puzzle pages. Can you find all the cuties?

So cute, adorable, and sweet, though at times also far fetched and a bit weird (again, a skirt with eyes, or a windmill).

'Kawaii Doodle Cuties' by Pic Candle and Zainab Khan is a book that will show you how to draw hundreds of things from all over the world in the Kawaii Cutie style.

After a brief introduction and list of tools and tips and tricks, the book is divided in to various chapters. There are chapters on food, natural wonders, animals and birds, architecture and more. In each chapter are some step by step directions and then a page of other ideas in the category. The book ends with a series of fun search & find puzzles that were a lot of fun.

I loved how every instruction ended with 'Draw a cute face, of course.' It made me smile every time I saw it (and I saw it a lot in this book). The instructions seem mostly easy to follow. There were a few more complex drawings that didn't look as easy, but that means the book has appeal to most skill levels.

What I Liked

Right off the bat, I really liked the overall look of this book. It is cute, just like the title says. The authors style is really defined in this book, when it comes both to color pallet and technique. I also like how simple a majority of these are. While you do need to be able to draw ovals, circles, triangles, and other shapes to follow the instructions, with practice you will be able to follow most of these with ease.

I also loved how this book had adorable doodles from many, many countries. Including, USA, Mexico, Australia, Spain, Cuba and many more. They ranged from buildings to foods, a very wide array to represent each country in there. I will admit I was a bit partial towards the foods, what can I say? I love food and they were just too kawaii. They truly lived up to the title.

What I Didn’t Like

Some of the step by step recreations kinda take weird jumps. One example is the crepe. You go from adding. a few simple lines to then in the next stop add in all of the cream and. strawberries without giving a starting point. While the author does say to fill it with your own favorite toppings, it would be nice to practice drawing the ones in the book with more guidance to get better with perspective and layering. I do appreciate the author trying to give the reader more control, while learning there need to be more guidance, then once mastered move on.

Overall Thoughts

Overall I think this is a really fun drawing book. I think it gives great practice when it comes to learning to draw basic shapes and developing better hand control while drawing. While some of the tutorials take up jumps in the steps as stated before, you can figure it out with some time. As with anything new you are learning with practice, you improve. If you are looking to learn to draw or just want to play around, I think this is an adorable option for you.

Originally published on my blog: Nonstop Reader.

Kawaii Doodle Cuties: Sketching Super-Cute Stuff From Around the World is a new tutorial book from kawaii mistress Zainab Khan (a.k.a. Pic Candle). I've reviewed another doodle book by the same creator here, and this is more of the same. Due out 6th Nov, 2018 from Quarto - Race Point publishing, it's 144 pages and available in ebook and paperback formats.

This companion book fills out the previous book by including more country specific tutorials (see cover). The format is the same as the previous book and is accessible and user-friendly. The tutorials have step-by-step illustrations which anyone can follow.

The book starts with a general tips&tricks introduction followed by chapters with food, nature (including mountains and volcanoes), architectures, animals+birds, transportation, fashion, and everyday objects.

One of the most brilliant aspects of this book (and of Ms. Khan's art) is in showing the would be doodler how to combine and build on simple elements to produce a deceptively simple cohesive piece of art which looks very complex. There are whole collage drawings at the end of the book which are provided as search&find puzzles but which would also make superlative coloring pages as well as a good tutorial on planning full page illustrations.

I've been using doodling as an awareness/mindfulness exercise and it really does work. These are cute and good fun.

This would make a really fun rainy day activity for younger kids to, well, adult age. They're appealing and whimsical and sweet.

Five stars

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Prepare to be overloaded with cuteness, but that is what you came for, right?

This book is a step by step instructions to draw all sorts of cute stuff, more cute stuff than you can shake a stick at. (Although, admittedly, a lot of the ways to get your drawings super cute is to had eyes and a mouth to them, bust this book shows you how to do it, so it works.

The book is set into sections, for food, travel, animals, that sort of thing. It is more a look-up-what-what -you-can-draw rather than sit through and read every note of it.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review.

I am a huge fan of kawaii, but not a very talented artist, sadly. I have a copy of one of Khan's other kawaii drawing books, "Kawaii Doodle Class" and I've been able to draw some adorable kawaii items using Khan's easy to follow directions. "Kawaii Doodle Cuties" is just as easy to use. The steps are illustrated well, and you don't particularly need any special talents or tools to be able to draw your own doodle cuties! I especially love this book because it had lots of different categories and where each "cutie" is from! My personal favorite was the chapter on landmarks (a kawaii Eiffel Tower and Sidney Opera House? um yes please!). Sure to delight any kawaii fan, no matter if they're old or young! #KawaiiDoodleCuties #NetGalley

I received a copy of Kawaii Doodle Cuties through NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Kawaii Doodle Cuties has got to be one of the cutest art books I’ve read in quite some time. No wonder they found a way to include cute in the title! It was difficult for me to not be distracted by all the cute drawings while reading the instructions, but I’m not considering that a bad thing in this case.
This artbook covers everything I could possibly ask for on the subject. It starts with tips, tricks, and tools, as well as a quick guide on how to use the book. From there it goes through several major categories, showing how to draw different things from each. The categories include adorable food (see what I mean about the book being cute?), precious nature & natural wonders, enchanting architecture & monuments, lovable animals & birds, charming transportation, fetching fashion, and finally everyday cute. And yes, those really are the titles of each of the categories listed in the book. I didn’t make them up myself. So that should give you an idea of how adorable this instructional book is.
