Minor: Addiction, Bullying, Mental illness, Mass/school shootings
This book felt like 100 books but in a really good way. Each different essay gave me so much to mull over. Such a genuinely interesting, thoughtful, insightful person. Especially enjoyed the chapters on white rappers, Carly Rae jepsen, black churches, fall out boy.

I’m shocked something so Ohio focused earned such a high rating. It’s a testament to Abdurraqib’s writing.
This book felt like a conversation about grief and music and love.

They Can’t Kill Us Until They Kill Us by Hanif Abdurraqib is an incredible collection of essays. I listened to it as a audiobook read by the author. I interspersed his words with the songs he mentions in the essays, which added to my understanding and the potency of the collection. I absolutely loved the experience.
