Charlotte has been a publishing author in secret. After being robbed on the street she decides to hire Blayne to protect her. Without intending to he ends up pretending to be her fiancé. This was a very enjoyable read. Though I didn't like how Blayne tried to push Charlotte away, but am glad they both made the right decisions in the end.

This book follows the story of Blayne MacNeil who was featured in The Forgotten Duke. Reading the previous book would add context to this book. However, it could also be read as a stand alone book. The main characters in this book are Charlotte and Blayne. She is an independent writer in need of protection. She hires Blayne to provide protection. A series of challenging events tests their business relationship. Through the ups and downs, their feelings grow. I like the way the author allows for character growth. The romance is built over time, making it more authentic and meaningful. Overall, this is my favourite book in the series. I look forward to reading the next one!

After being robbed on the street, Charlotte hires Blayne to act as her bodyguard when she ventures out of Mayfair. But when her father tries to arrange an unwanted marriage for her, she adds a new role to Blayne's duties: fake fiancé. When their pretend relationship turns all too real, will ghosts from Blayne's past come between them?

This fast-paced romance is one adventure after another. Charlotte is a strong, determined heroine, and Blayne is her perfect match. This one kept me guessing until the end.

Thanks, Booksprout and NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I received this as an arc for my honest review

This was not a book for me. I found it boring and over plotted. I didn’t feel any connection to or between the characters. This was a just a book that I should have passed over.

Her Scottish Scoundrel is the seventh book in the Diamonds in the Rough series. I have not read any of the other books and series and did not feel as if it took away from the overall story or that there were too many spoilers that would create issues.
The story follows an intrepid woman, Miss Charlotte Russell's, who is ready to embrace her spinsterhood despite the fact that her parents still have hope that she will get married. Of course they don't know her secret that she pens stories under a assumed name and is biding her time to acquire a cottage in the countryside. She has no desire to marry and give up her independence to a man. When faced with a dangerous situation she decides to hire a bodyguard.
Blayne MacNeil agrees to be her bodyguard but quickly realizes that it won't work to the secrets he's keeping. Of course all that goes out the window when Charlotte informs him of a plan to thwart her parents. When he realizes that he cannot walk away from her and taking the steps to protect her could uncover his secret. He is intrigued by Charlotte and determined to protect her even if it's from himself.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review
Society lady Charlotte hires scoundrel-with-a-heart-of-gold Blayne to be her bodyguard so she can continue her secret writing career. When she also asks him to be her fake fiance to get out of her parents' matchmaking, sparks fly.

I loved this story and these characters, and while the usual regency romance tropes were out to play, Barnes makes them feel fresh and exciting so that I was rooting for both Charlotte and Blayne from the very beginning. There's playful banter, steamy kisses, a dark past, heroes that won't allow the behavioral strictures of the time to prevent them from being together; it has all of the good things!

This is one of my new favorite romances and I'm excited to read more of Sophie Barnes's books.

Charlotte Russell is a writer, who publishes under an alias who plans to never marry. One day after collecting her earnings from her publishing home is robbed, so she decides she needs a bodyguard and Blayne MacNeil is the perfect person for the job. But when she's informed by her parents that they set her marriage with an American businessman, she promotes Blayne to her fiancé.

I really enjoyed this book, even though on some parts I felt the pace was a bit rushed. Charlotte and Blayne were great leading characters. Both of them sacrificed something important for each other but in the end they were rewarded.

This my first book of the author and I'm planning on reading the rest of the series as well.

I received a free ARC and these are my honest opinions.

I find that the story has an interesting plot to it. The entertainment was interesting. As I was reading, I notice that the writer stuck to simple verbal words for the readers. That was great. I was happy to see the many different characters to the story. I definitely liked that the leading lady character was no simpleton. The romance of the story was unique and very sweet. I

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC :)

After being accosted on a visit to her publisher, Charlotte Russell decides the best option she can take is to hire a bodyguard. Upon meeting Blayne MacNeil, she knows he is perfect for the job. Sadly, Charlotte’s father has plans for her future which involves her married to a rich American. To avoid the impending match, Charlotte announces she’s already engaged.....to Blayne.

Charlotte as a character was great! As an author, she is intelligent, well-spoken, and independent. Her family, who are part of the aristocracy, aren’t aware of her writing career, but she still hopes to live out her future alone and just writing all day. Blayne on the other hand has spent the last 19 years going by an assumed name to avoid his past and the law. He's rough around the edges but has his hidden depths. Both of the characters work well together and are very likable.

Sophie Barnes truly is a great writer. I have read many of her works before (and most of this series). This book can definitely be read as a standalone, but of course, many characters tend to cross over. Overall, this book did not disappoint. The storytelling is well done and exciting. Her writing is extremely visual and rousing as well. One thing I did note is that there was a decided lack of steamy scenes, especially compared to Barnes’ previous work. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing! I think there may have just been too much plot happening to even try including them. There were probably about 5 different plotlines. I don’t think all of them were necessary, but I didn’t mind it.
