Unfortunately this series isn’t living up to the hype. The MMC and FMC are insufferable and the spicy scenes are borderline cringey. I’m invested in the series now though solely due to the one sentence cliffhanger at the end of book 2.

I love this new side of Lana we're getting to see. It is impossible not to like this woman. This series is turning out to be super fun to binge and I can't wait for the inevitable serial killer showdown in the next book!

the risk ★★★.5/5
sidetracked ★★.5/5
real rating is 2.5 stars
i really wanted to finish this series. i promise i did. i enjoyed the first one more or less and was excited to see that the rest of the series was rated even higher. unfortunately, this one i enjoyed significantly less than the first.
as always, i loved the premise. i loved the idea of lana being able to find love again after her past and her having to learn what it means to be in a relationship. loved that she tried to get justice for hadley as well as herself and her brother. go off queen! and jake as well, love that he's as supportive as possible but not afraid to call her on her shit. and i loved getting to see more into hadley's story.
unfortunately, what turned me off from this book is that it didn't feel like a whole lot happened, and what did happen was more directly tied to logan than it was lana and her mission or the mystery of the town. it was literally all about the boogeyman until the very end when they make the delaney grove connection. it all moreso feels like filler and a book i probably could've skipped and still understood what was going on. also, i know i knocked on it in my last review, but the writing really turned me off. there are so many cliches and needless filler sentences that feel very cringe and dim what could've been very hard hitting paragraphs or chapters.
also if i have to hear the words “sexual sadist” one more time
