One of my favourite Michael Gilbert novels. Hard to believe it came out during the youth (well, early-ish adulthood) of my grandparents. Not so say it's contemporary, but it has a kind of ageless feel, despite being very much concerned with mid-20th century things.

This had a strong post WWII setting and engaging heroes in Paddy and Nap, although it did all get a bit political and complex. Very right-wing good, left-wing bad.
