Falls pretty squarely in the historical pastiche it sets out to be. I liked most of the book, in particular the main character's backstory, but I was disappointed with the resolution, which felt a bit messy. Some of the secondary characters' motivations seemed a little unconvincing/unsatisfactorily explained. The literary references were entertaining, and there is a certain exuberance in the writing which made the book an enjoyable read until the slight let-down of the last chapter or so.
