It has been my observation that most sequels on GoodReads have a higher rating than the first book in a series. I have attributed this to the fact that people who read the second book probably loved the first one, so it weeds out all the people who the series wasn't for.

While it is only about .3 points, I believe it is worth pointing out this book is not rated higher than the first. As someone who acknowledges how difficult writing is, holy moly did something go wrong with this book. Maybe it was just too rushed? The little tag on this book is "The Revolution is Here" well gee whiz I would have liked to see it instead of Camille running from safehouse to safehouse.

I honestly wouldn't have even finished this book had I not given up on Evermore earlier this year. I think my time would have been better spent reading something else. I doubt this is a world I will return to.

I enjoyed this a bit more than the 1st book, but am just as frustrated with Camille. Unforgiving to the 'I'm sorry' of others, she barely offers the same to others that she wrongs. And the degree of selfishness that she displays is stupefying.

I loved the concept of The Belles--exploring the lengths people will go to be beautiful (in the world's eyes) is a worthy endeavor. And that theme continues in this second book, but it seems a bit more watered down, probably because the Belles' ability is used less as a beauty treatment and more as a sort of superpower with limits (they discover new aspects of their ability that can be used to help them in their quest, but it takes a lot of strength and effort, so they can't do it for long). Most of this book involves Camille traveling to try and find (and save) her sisters and Charlotte. The parts where she actually encounters her sisters are definitely exciting, but the ending felt a little rushed and a little too easy. Still, if you've been excited to find out how Camille will defeat Sophia, then you'll be eager to read till the very end.

I did like this book, but I found the pacing to be a bit odd throughout and it just wasn’t as good as the first one. Loved the expanded mythology/history of the world but left me wanting more.

Amazing story, I really hope this story becomes a movie. And the gentle twist that evolves over the two books blew my mind.

I felt like the rising action took so long that the end felt a little rushed, but I still love the sumptuous language and compelling MC. Thank goodness less of a love triangle. I’m looking forward to more work from Clayton.

There were some great concepts in the first book but this one felt a little bit like she didn't know how to continue the story. Quite a basic plot, would maybe appeal more to younger readers. I liked that it was a conclusion after two books though.

I love the first book very much, but I feel like, while this book was good, it wasn't as great as the first book, which could always be the classic case of the sophomore slump.

Dhonielle does excellent with the imagery she creates for the world of Orleans. It is hard to categorize this book as strictly just a fantasy novel, as there are a bit of dystopian vibes sprinkled in here.

I still do love this series because Dhonielle has given us a story concept that has never been done before in this way. It is like the ability to alter your look that Uglies proved with the hatred of our protagonist that President Snow gives in Hunger Games.
