Ok, I did it. I read a romance series - or at least the first 3. I’m stopping at 3, because the first “big-bad” through-line wrapped. I actually found the plot interesting and the characters nuanced enough to further it. Usually when I add romance in, I’m ready to check the box and wait another year, but I was pretty interested in what happened to the pack and their enemy in these books.

*I am doing a series review so each of the individual book reviews will be short and to the point*

The most emotionally draining of the 3 books!

What I thought of Alpha Pack #3: Holy emotional steamroller! Black Moon from beginning to end will pull at every little heartstring that you possess. Mackenzie has been my favorite female lead to date. She has just so much to deal with in Black Moon that you really want to just wrap your arms around her and let her fall apart for 5 min. However, she keeps it together and really is the big hero of the story. Yes, Kalen is the one doing the fighting but I really think without Mac he could have been the bad guy. She was the thread that made the strong man even stronger. *sigh* Aren't those the best kind of love stories?

*I was a little disappointed that there wasn't more Hammer in this story (he is my favorite) but a girl can't have everything. I am really looking forward to seeing who the rest of the #nakedshifters end up mating with!

I hated this book. It was extremely emo. He had a terrible childhood.. That sucks man. But now you have awesome job and friends and a hot girl who is into you despite your whine-y ness... Thats totally a word. And good lord Mack was also super freaking annoying. He blew her off and then is a dick to her and then one day he is nice and asks her to lunch... I would have refused but not only does she go on the date, she takes him to her special spot( gag) and has sex with him. Seems like a fantastic life choice. They also overused pet names. Which again made me want to gag.

I don't know guys. I wanted to like it but I just didn't.. at all.

Black Moon, Alpha Pack #3, by J.D. Tyler
Grade: D+

“Save me, Mackenzie. Drive out the darkness. Be my light.”

Kalen Black is a sorcerer and a shifter who can turn into a panther. he has had a very tough life but feels like he might have finally found acceptance with the Alpha Pack and in the arms of the sexy doctor Mackenzie Grant. Kalen is being haunted by a very powerful Unseelie Malik who wants to use Kalen and his power. Because of Malik kalen tries to drive Mac away but the bond between them is too great and his panther has already decided she will be their mate.

Mackenzie Grant has spent her life trying to save people and she has always ended up hurt. With Kalen things are no different but Mac is determined to fight for him and the life they can have together. With kalen losing more of himself to Malik’s influence every day the fight to save him is a long one. When mac discovers she is pregnant the fight becomes ever more important and she will do anything to save her new family.

I loved Savage Awakenings, the second book in this series, and I have been eagerly waiting to get my hands on Kalen and Mac’s book for months. Now that I’ve read Black Moon I am very disappointed and not sure I want to carry on with the series. I found the book lacking something and the back and forth between Mac and kalen drove me crazy. Add in Mac not telling kalen some pretty important information and I almost stopped reading.

Kalen breaks things off with mac in Savage Awakenings and he believes he has very good reasons and now he changes his mind in Black Moon even though the threat of Malik is even worse. This makes no sense to me and Mac just jumps right back into his arms without making him work for it. I know she knows at this time she’s carrying his baby but I think she would have done it regardless if she was pregnant or not. Why she doesn’t tell Kalen about the baby was just annoying and predictable to set up him finding out and them having a big fight towards the end of the book.

I felt that a lot of the book was predictable and that Kalen spent a lot of time pouting when he should have been fighting for the woman he loved. I loved Kalen in the previous books but he is now my least favorite and I hate saying that. I hope the next book brings the awesomness of the series back but I’m going to have to spend some time between now and September trying to convince myself to give it a try.and not just be done with the series.

I think the narration was better in this one. More emotion. Full review to come.

Could not finish this one. Got about half way through and never really connected with the charactors. Both the H/H irritated me. The story was choppy and not very believable for me. Loved the First two books in the series so I may pick this up again. Maybe it will redeem itself later and I want to continue to read future books in this series hoping they will be as good as the first two.

OH MY!
I have liked these books since they first came out and I swear they get better and better! This was one roller coaster of an emotional book! I laughed, I cried and I wanted to punch a few people in the face.

Kalen has been through so much in his life and now that he is an adult it doesn't stop. But I won't say much more because I will totally give it away. I couldn't wait to get to his story because I've wanted more of him since I read Primal Law and Black Magic.

This book was a great addition to this series and if you haven't read them then what are you waiting for?

I give this book 5 Hoots

At first I was a little lost because I had waited too long in between books, but was quickly whisked away into a world of magic. Couldn't put the book down. Kalen's story keeps you on the edge of your seat, never knowing fully what may happen next.
