Journalist Karly Bonham is on her first overseas mission covering the United States ambassador and his daughter in Thailand, when they are taken hostage by terrorists but Karly manages to evade capture and is on the island alone until help arrives in the form of four Navy SEALS, one of whom is Ethan Dunn.

Ethan is part of an elite SEAL team, called Alpha Crew, and he relies on his three team members but knows this one is different when he meets Karly. Ethan is impressed by her courage and willingness to help and even listens when she passes on valuable intel on what could be the key to the rescue being successful. Ethan knows that working with Karly will raise the stakes, but the clock is ticking and they're trying to thwart a terrorist plot and bring a mastermind to justice.

This was a edge of your seat, I want to know what happens next short story. I wish we could have gotten more time with these characters and really see their relationship form and get to know them. It seemed like their relationship was rushed but the action in a Laura Griffin book is always thrilling.

This story had so much potential for greatness but it was entirely too short, too quick for the romance and the ending of the suspense came much too soon. Full review coming soon to the blog.

**I received a copy of Cover of Night from Net Galley and Pocket Star in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**

Cover of Night by Laura Griffin is the third book of the authors Alpha Crew series and I feel that you could read it as a stand alone without issues even though I have each successive one.

Karly Bonham is a journalist covering the US Ambassador and his daughter to Thailand who is vacation on a remote and private location. Little does anyone know that she would meet the person responsible for taking them hostage. While returning from a dive she sees guests being shot on the beach and when the terrorist see the boat they start attacking them. Karly is able to go over the side and escape but she's able to place a SOS to her editor hoping that someone will rescue them.

Ethan Dunn and his team of Alpha Crew Navy SEALs have been sent to recon the situation for rescue when he suddenly finds Karly in the jungle. He takes her knowledge of the island and hostages to use for a rescue but his team of 4 men will be outnumbered. After all the hostages are rescued and on their way for medical help, both Ethan and Karly have one night together but then the one terrorist who escapes realizes that she may have a way to ID her. Ethan wants more than one night but can he convince Karly?

There will be another rescue of her but will Ethan get there in time before Tango X silences her forever? Can Karly take a chance on Ethan to take their feelings of each other to a possible forever? I definitely would give the book 4.8 stars and hope there are more in the future.

This book gave me everything the first two books in the series didn't - pulse-pounding suspense, character development, sweet nothings, hot sex, a strong conclusion where the main characters got to take down the Big Bad and it didn't happen off page, and ooey gooey declarations of love and commitment. I was in heaven!

So glad that my persistence with this series despite my previous ire paid off.

Fast-paced and thrilling, Cover of Night quickly jumped into its suspense with fully formed characters and brought the intensity from the get-go. Even as a novella, both Ethan and Karly were strong, present characters that felt fleshed out even without any back story or build-up, and then Griffin brought the two together in a live-or-die situation and allowed them the space to catch a foothold with one another.

Outside of the action, Griffin didn’t shy away from the effects of a traumatic situation, allowing Karly to experience the consequences of how a deadly experience such as that can affect her mental health. And still, her character was incredibly brave and resilient, both during and after, which was admirable, but it didn’t act as if the issues had a quick fix either–something of which I loved. The romantic connection between the two was fast but potent–and shone some truth to how an experience can tie two people together in the most instinctive of ways.

Cover of Night was a great love story with the perfect blend of romance and suspense. Each character felt real and there was a wonderfully organic connection between them that grew into a believable romance. The ending felt a bit rushed, not as expertly paced as the rest of the book, but aside from that, I fell in love with it from the beginning. If you're looking for an exciting novel to devour in one sitting, this is it.

**Received an early copy; this had no bearing on my opinions**

With action at the beginning and again towards the end. There was enough to enjoy and keep me engaged throughout. Along with two likable characters and a sweet romance. Cover of Night was a good read. Yet I do wish it had been longer and the terror plotline more developed. However I would still happily recommend it to others. Especially if you love a alpha hero who also happens to be a Navy SEAL. A brave and smart heroine and some insta love.
