An interesting one of a case that isn't really a case until the end, an investigation done unofficially but quite interesting. Somewhat implausible but no less enjoyable for that. It was fun to see how the threads were untangled and for once I didn't have the suspect in mind until the final reveal.

A lot of red herrings and as always a typical engaging cast of characters. A great addition to the series.

This entertaining and puzzling mystery finally provided me with a "serial killer" story that I didn't mind reading. I've read most of Lovesey's other series and books, but this is my first Peter Diamond. I thought he did a very good job working in clues but obscuring their meaning, and it did keep me guessing for the best part of the book. There is a large cast of characters, but I didn't have any trouble keeping them straight, so extra kudos to the author on that. I enjoyed the deft touches of humor here and there as well.

A good whodunnit with appealing characters and not too convoluted for enjoyment.

I loved this new installment in the series. I think the last two books have been great.

This is a bit of the old fashioned type of murder
mystery but it is a dandy. The writing is brisk
and keeps you interested, although it does go
on for a bit long. The payoff is in the clever
ending. I thoroughly enjoyed this.

#34 a book recommended by a family member
I enjoyed the storyline of this as it was not predictable. It revolved around Peter Diamond being put in charge of investigating a police car accident in which a policeman is killed and an elderly man is severely injured. Diamond saves the life of the old man but comes to suspect him of murder. The story encompasses a number of moral dilemmas and keeps the reader wondering about the crime for a significant times. There are also some funny moments.

One of the best Diamond books I have read in years. Diamond is working a case off the books based on his excellent instincts that a murderer is operating in Bath.

Lovesey is at his best when Diamond works outside the system. Diamond Solitaire is another excellent example of this.

If like police procedurals with a touch of humor and a lot of personality, you should try a Peter Diamond book.
