i am sick to my stomach. wow.

there is so much to say about this book i don’t know where to begin or end. the one thing i will say was that i was surprised to see so many people view this book as a “come to jesus” story. religion quite literally drives every character away from each other and makes them miserable. look where charles and the flyte family are by the end of the book: are any of them happy?

and charles and sebastian. ouuuu it hurts. evelyn waugh you’re evil.

“‘Loneliness, missing Sebastian.’

‘You loved him, didn’t you?’

‘Oh yes. He was the forerunner.’”

I HOPE I DIE IN MY SLEEP

Brideshead Revisited by Evelyn Waugh wasn't quite what I was expecting, but I'm still glad I tried it. Jeremy Irons has a great voice for audiobook narration. I think I will have to try the 1981 adaptation (starring Mr. Irons!) soon.

I read this book for the first time at school and I am studying it for my dissertation. I really love this book and It will always be one of my favourites.

Re-read (audiobook). Jeremy Irons is an excellent narrator.

I wanted to love this book so badly. however, it just drags. this book is mentally exhausting in ways I have seldom encountered while reading. it is slow to start and slower to finish. it picks up in the middle but overall I feel drained after reading this. redeeming qualities are general plot and characters, but I can't say I was at all thrilled with this one. perhaps it will resonate with me more upon a later reread

3.5

A tricky one to review since my interest in it ebbed and flowed. I really liked bits of this book, which had some lovely writing and interesting descriptions of Oxford (especially after reading Chums), but not enough of it to warrant a higher mark. Really liked the first half with Sebastian (and couldn’t help being reminded of Saltburn) whereas the rest of the book was patchier, although the quality of writing remained consistently high

Downtown Abbey without the downstairs crews' perspective.

“‘Sometimes,’ said Julia, ‘I feel the past and the future pressing so hard on either side that there’s no room for the present at all.’”
