this book was not good in any way. at most the book is a nice summary of the rich anglo 19th century view of the world. at worst it just an overly self obsessed book.
maybe it’s bc i feel personally alienated by the language in the book but i couldn’t find it in me to care about what the text was saying really.

upping this to 5 stars because honestly i think about this book almost every day & it's the novel that caused me to discover that i can love classics. i think this book probably changed me as a reader forever, how could i not give it 5 stars?
