This was ok. I'm afraid this will just be Riley 2.0 just with some different powers. I'm also hoping it will change so I might continue but I really find the sex clubs in these series icky and the "romance" very dissatisfying. The rest tends to be interesting so I will keep going for now.

I didn't realise that Risa had been given her own spin off series at first and was really glad i discovered that she had. I really loved this book it was a great start to a promising series. I loved the Riley Jenson series and can definitely see this series rivalling it. It felt like i was getting in touch with old friends when Riley, Quinn, Rhoan and Liander were mentioned and was great to see they had a full family altogether, I had loved Dia in the Riley series and little Risa and loved the fact that Risa is still the same as the mischievous toddler when we first met her. There are a lot of strong characters in this book and I am already loving the sexual tension between Risa and Azriel. Am picking up the second book as soon as I finish writing this because boy what an ending. I found myself tearing up and feeling for Risa so so much. Can't wait to find out more.

Great start to a new series by Keri Arthur. It almost had the feel to it of an original Guardian book, Full Moon Rising. I loved that Keri Arthur continued in the world of Riley and Rhoan. The story of Risa comes about 20 years after we left Riley. I was a little sad because we did not get to see how Riley, Rhoan, Quinn, and Lisander come to where they were today. Maybe I missed a short story or full length novel somewhere along the way. Besides that, I loved Risa. She isn't a Guardian but she's been trained by the best and even though she can go into a fight holding her own, she's reluctant. That doesn't stop her from getting involved. Great mystery, great characters, and a great start. Still not a fan of vegemite, though.

Hopefully the next title will be a bit more entertaining.

This is a spin off from the Riley Jenson series which I am still reading, starring Risa, Riley's niece and her friends-a lesbian witch and a hot werewolf dude she can have sex with(no surprises there). There are frequent cameos from Riley and co for fans of that series.

Risa wasn't really that interesting to me. It was the usual 'I'm-a-tough-gal-who-can-handle-it yet constantly gets into trouble and needs rescued by her friends and Riley. There was the usual constant casual sex with werewolves and unlikable characters like Lucian that you expect in these books but the plot in between was pretty much lacking for me compared to other urban fantasy books.

The Reaper Azriel was the bright spot of the book and I was keen to see more of him and less of the sex that seperates each plot development but I guess that was wishful thinking.

And can UF/PNR/YA writers get some imagination and stop calling your character Lucian all the time???!!!!!! Jeez!

Interesting World Building

This book felt like it wasn’t the first book in the series, and not really in a good way. The world building was pretty cool but I wish it had been a bit more in depth. It felt like we took a very winding route to get about 10 feet. I also didn’t much care for the main character.

I struggled with this book. It took a long time to get into, the pacing felt stilted and I just struggled. I also feel like its one of those series where the books don't really stand alone well, like they pick a moment in the plot and say "The End" and then the next book just picks up where the last one left off. (Time did actually lapse between the books - but that is how it felt for me.) If I hadn't purchased a bunch of these on a sale on Audible I wouldn't feel any compulsion to keep reading this series.

Interesting

It's always interesting to hear the same sorts of supernaturals have different names and also to meet new supernaturals. I really enjoyed the story line too and the ending had a "dun dun dun" moment that I loved.

This is the first book in the spin off from Ms. Arthur’s Riley Jensen Guardian novels. The worst thing about the first book in a series is the world building. You have to be introduced to the characters and their environment. Because this is a spin off that work has been pretty much done. This series takes place 20 or so years in the future from the Riley Jensen series. This series stars Risa (the little girl who saved Riley) all grown up and dealing with some of the same issues Riley had to and then adding on a whole bunch of her own. If you liked the Riley Jensen series you should enjoy this as well. If you haven’t read the Riley Jensen series I would recommend it but it isn’t necessary. Now off to buy Darkness Rising the next in this series.
