The first book in the series is plot and world building, but I still enjoy it. Love triangle between vampire-werewolf is fun even though you can tell who Dina is going to choose.

I loved this book, the warmth of the writing and the way you completely adore Dina, the Innkeeper, immediately!

As a setup for a series it's so good, the humour around the werewolf Sean and Arland the Vampire (I'm never going to forget reading about a hunky vampire, drunk on coffee, running naked through the apple orchard) is really good, how they come together to fight but snipe like an old married couple.

And in the middle of all this alphaness is Dina, with the power her position and her Inn affords her. You fall in love with her Inn: Gertrude Hunt, you wonder what happened to her family and you become invested very quickly.

A beautiful read and so much fun.

Her power relies on her staying at home and I’ve never been more irrationally jealous of a fictional character in my life

What a fantastically fun book! I hate it when I put off reading a book and it turns out to be just what I needed.

After reading several of the Kate Daniels books, I knew that I was in for a treat with this new Ilona Andrews book. Truthfully, there are a lot of similarities between the series. This book is set in Texas around a girl named Deana who runs an inn and gets pulled into a battle between some extra human forces that descend on her small town in the form of a werewolf (Sean) and some vampires (Arland) as well as some other very interesting creatures.

I think this book excels where the first Kate Daniels book didn't in that there's a lot more explanation. I'm not saying that there's huge info dumps, but you gradually learn things so that the world starts to grow around you. I also thoroughly enjoyed the fresh take on vampires and werewolves that this book had. Really, saying too much will spoil a lot of the reveals so I'll leave it at that.
