Just bought this book again, through a strange coincidence 10 years after I purchased the paperback in 2007, I bought the ebook to read it again, today March 05th, 2017.
If I remember right, this book is a fast read and a strange near-future-SF, which is creepy real, even to the deaths about limited shoe-wear (which happened a few years after publishing).
Will re-read this some time and write a more in depth-review.
Still, as of now I highly recommend it. Still sad the planned movie was not made - yet?!

A unique work of fiction of corporate America run amok. It was a fun read.

Meh. I picked this up for fifty cents at goodwill because I recognized the cover art as being the same as The Host (lets branch out with our stock photos please). I read the back and deemed it interesting enough to work through. It wasn't the best book I'd ever read and clearly not that memorable because I only have a vague recollection of the story. Since I don't remember hating it either three stars should sum up my satisfaction with this one.

The idea of a world where corporations completely dominate the world, so much that people are named after where they work, is interesting. Unfortunately, this isn't an interesting book. The author doesn't do anything interesting or clever with the premise, so the world just feels incoherent and poorly planned. The plot is an absolute mess and hardly any of it makes any sense. Very little of the satire or social criticism hits the target.

There are far too many characters and POVs, which makes them difficult to tell apart as none of them are particularly interesting. Most of the people are idiots and do bizarre things for no good reason. There is also a countless number of unnamed women who are just there for a male character to sleep with. At times the book reads more like a teen drama gossiping about who is sleeping with who, rather than a satire of corporate consumerism.

I had a lot of high hopes for this book and then was severely let down. When I picked up this book the concept seemed really interesting and it had a lot of potential. Unfortunately I'm left wanting the time I spent reading this back. There was little character development and the dialogue was awful. I found the first few chapters really interesting and then it just died. I kept reading hoping it would get better. It didn't. Seriously can I have my weekend back?

that was a fun ride! i liked it so much i ignored my friends, read in line for a plane ticket, on the plane, while waiting for my baggage, on the shuttle. slammed it shut (to signify finishing a book) and handed it to my friend who was by now very interested in it.
