Jesus. What a novel. Much like the arduous agricultural work the titular peasants live off, this book is a task; a very rewarding one. The prose is absolutely gorgeous. Whether it's descriptions of the land and crops or the blissful dreamy paragraphs of young love and lust, you're always firmly within Lipce's grasp. The page count was daunting initially but I don't think it would be possible to achieve that level of interiority within that many characters without it. This is one of those books that makes me remember why I fell in love with literature. It'll stay with me for a long time.
