I received a copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review:

Blending fairy tales together in a unique and really enjoyable way, Grimms Curse is a great little book. Weaving characters from some of the most loved fairy tales together in a twisted tale with more self-confident women and princesses. Although it is the 3rd in a series I didn't feel confused or lost, it definitely can stand alone.

Ok, I’m all for reimagined fairy tales. After all, just look at the reviews I’ve done for three of the Disney Twisted Tales books. I love a good reimagined fairy tale. Please note I said a good reimagined fairy tale.

A Grimm Curse is not a good reimagined fairy tale. As a prequel, I honestly feel this book raises far more questions than it actually answers. It is all over the place and makes absolutely no sense.

There are elements of Rapunzel, Cinderella, The Frog Prince, and even Jack and the Beanstalk in this book. Just in case you wondered, as a general rule, fairy tales don’t crossover. Yes, I know… they do in Into the Woods and Shrek, among others. And it works in those places. But it didn’t work here.

There was so little of Jack in the Beanstalk it seemed like that addition was pure afterthought – kind of like the author said “Hmm, I should add yet another fairy tale, but which one?? Oh! I know! I’ll stick Jack in the Beanstalk at the end and hope no one notices.” There wasn’t much of Rapunzel either and you have no idea how Cynthia and Rapunzel became friends in the first place, they just were.

The story was just too disjointed and wonky for me to be able to enjoy it. I made it through because it’s a relatively quick read – about 4 and half hours, but honestly, I won’t read it again, nor would I consider reading the previous books in the series.

***I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. All opinions are 100% my own.***

"Closing her eyes Cynthia breathed in the familiar hazel smell of hazel ."
I was so disappointed in this book. Honestly, the premise was interesting and the characters could have been interesting, but I didn't care very much at all about the main character and I thought that the story would have been much better served if it had followed Rapunzel instead. She was a million times more interesting and had a much better backstory.
That's really all I have to say about the story itself, but the story itself would have been a three star. HowEVER, things like the above quote were in the entire story. The book was formatted in a way that I'm almost certain that it is a draft after edits, but the edits were never taken out and are still just sitting in the middle of random sentences. Which, as you can imagine, is completely impossible to follow and one of the most unprofessional books I've ever read. I looked into other reviews and it sounds like this author's other books are the same way. It's ridiculous and she definitely needs to fix this issue before releasing any more books.

THE REVIEW

Why this book?
I read the other books in this series

What I thought

This was my favorite book in this series by far. I loved how it was a mixture of so many fairytales I love like Cinderella and the Frog Prince. Cynthia was a great lead character she was interesting and independent. I also loved Remi and his and Cynthia's friendship. Being a big fan of fairytale retelling's I got to say this one was pretty good. Overall an enjoyable read!
