I was worried it wouldn't be as good as the first and was SO wrong. I can't wait to read #3, already pre-ordered!

I liked the first book better. This book was paced better but the author spent so much time building up relationships over two books just to destroy them. Nina in this book lost her spark and was no longer interesting. Beatrice became more interesting but still managed to disappoint me in the end. Daphne and Sam remained consistent but Daphne’s ending came out of nowhere and makes no sense with the rest of the two books.

Compared to the first book, this one fell short. I still enjoyed the story, I just wish the ending didn’t feel incomplete.

Yes the alternate history aspect of this is terribly written and illogical, but what I’m still pissed off about 3 years later is the bait and switch with the love interests from the first book. The queen/bodyguard pairing was the main reason I enjoyed book 1 so much and I can’t believe the author was like nah let’s switch up all the ships after getting people invested. Ridiculous.

I’ll definitely keep reading the series just because I kind of want to know how everything ends, but I hate how the characters don’t seem to have any connection with their love interests they’re just “in love” but ehh it’s cute & an easy read when you’re bored at work

A decent follow-up to the first book; I liked getting to see where the characters went, even though there were some repetitive arcs. I wish the older adult characters, especially the mother, played a more active role in the plot; it feels very convenient that all the teenagers and young adults are left to do essentially whatever they want.
