I would have given this book more stars but I just felt the lack of real back ground about Ruby or any really good hints distracted me a lot while reading as I kept reading. The loop was a good story line but it did get a bit old which I think is due to not really connecting with Ruby. I will probably give book 2 a go as the story/writing came together more at the end.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

It was fine but there was something about it that didn't quite hit the mark for me. I think it was the pacing maybe? Or just something off about the character development? But it was fine. If the rest of the series were on Kindle Unlimited I'd read it but I didn't like it enough to pay for the rest of the books

Attention grabbing start! I usually tend to get lost in time conundrums, but this was interesting.

If you're interested in a dark, sci-fi, paranormal "groundhog day" kinda book - this is the one for you! It was good, not great, and I'm somewhat interested in reading the rest of the trilogy because I liked the two main characters so much.

This one is difficult, I'm not 100% sure how I feel about it. The concept of the story seemed interesting: sassy protagonist who I enjoyed meets kind of dry partner with "sad blue eyes" and finds out they're stuck in a time loop where they must find out what's happening and kill the bad guy.

I found the writing itself to be great, besides the repetition of "sad blue eyes". I was worried at first that the whole time loop thing would mean I was going to go back over information constantly, but it wasn't like that at all, the author worked with this concept really well.

I'm thinking that maybe this story just wasn't for me, I can't work out why exactly, which is frustrating. It took me a while to get through it and I even put it down for a while too.

There's not really any magic in it perse so if that's what you're looking for, you won't find it here, I'm not even sure why I assumed magic would play a role in it. However, if you're looking for a near futuristic, sci-fi type story, I'm sure you'll get a kick out of the world the author has built, the characters you meet and the storyline that has been set up. Give it a try, you may like it!

I was worried when I began reading this book that I was going to get bored because books with time loops run the risk of monotonous reading when the main character relives the same day over and over again. D.N. Erikson does a good job plunging us into a time loop with the necromancer but quickly moving on from the idea that the details of each day are the same so that we don't get sidetracked from the actual storyline.

Lightning Blade had very colorful language all throughout the book, which is a deterrent to me and makes it difficult for me to really get into a book. I also felt that the storyline was not as well-rounded as it could have been. I would have liked more background on how the world became the way it was... maybe that will come in another book.

There were also typos and missing words throughout the entire copy. This made it difficult to feel really immersed in the story as I had to reread sentences to make sure I was understanding what was meant. I received a free copy for an honest review.

I ended up reading that book because it was on sale on kindle and did not expect much of it. I was really surprised by its quality. I did not expect the well-rounded universe, the multi-layered characters nor the very interesting story. I also did not expect the time loop and really liked how it was written. I loved the main character, Ruby, from the start and wanted to read more about her in the end.

It was an okay read. It was free, so no complaints.

Felt a little like Groundhog Day or an episode of Supernatural where time is stuck in a loop. Would have been a fun read if not for the movie and the episode airing ages ago.
