dark emotional mysterious reflective sad slow-paced
  • Plot- or character-driven? A mix
  • Strong character development? It's complicated

whimsical. cryptic. kinda confused at the end but i like sitting in the confusion, thinking about what it could mean.

I think this book is a bit too short. The relationship is important to the guy... but we never see why, even in flashback, we just have to trust the author. Visually I loved it: the orange white and black are a little halloweeny but tonally it was more like Goodnight Moon for depressed people (in a good way)

So very angsty, but in a way that is acceptable if you can lean into it. Rad illustrations.

pretty. i started to hate the main character half-way through, but by the end i realized that's the whole point. we're all doomed to be oblivious assholes. not exactly uplifting, but the art is pretty and i can't say i disagree.

A little quirky and funny, but mostly sad and thoughtful. Pearson manifests the things that we're not aware of in the form of monsters, ghosts and shadows that move in and out of our peripheral vision. We don't know our loved ones, ourselves, or our fates nearly as well as we'd like. Nor do we know about the little critters that crawl past without us seeing. It's a strange, haunting little allegory.

felt very melodramatic and self-pitying in an unpleasant way

This account of a relationship's end and the things people don't pick up on had a good concept and decent art. The main characters, however, felt lifeless to me. The book is at its strongest in its wordless panels.
