I was so bored. 30% in nothing happened. It starts to pick up but by the time it does, you don't care anymore.

My rating system: 3⭐️⭐️⭐️ entertaining and worth a read but DIDN’T ROCK MY WORLD!!!

Jane it out for revenge in the cruelest way she can find. She is living a double life and her soul purpose is destruction. She makes sure she blends in, floral dresses, nice neat normal hair and a boring job that she does well. Her sights are set though and her target is in the firing line.

Jane has made sure she is the kind of woman that Steven Hemsworth likes - meek, mild, insecure and willing to defer to a man. But little does Steven know who Jane really is and her purpose is to destroy everything Steven holds dear.

Let’s be clear up front these are not 3 bad stars - I enjoyed the book. I will go and read the second one but it wasn’t a world rocking, mind bending literary masterpiece. Nor did I think it would be. It did exactly what I was hoping it to do and that was entertain me.

The chapters were short and to the point I liked Jane as a character. She is a self diagnosed sociopath who has very little feelings for other people. She makes this point abundantly clear… almost too many times. There is a bit of spoon feeding in this one and we do get a fair bit of repetition but I wasn’t fed up with it… I still had to know how this one was going to end and how Jane was going to destroy Steven’s life.

Jane is funny too I enjoyed the inner monologue with herself - this is told in first person solely from Jane’s POV and I really liked the quirkiness of it. For instance:

Maybe I should get a cat. The thought invades my head fully formed and utterly obvious. A cat. Another little sociopath to curl up beside me at night and keep me warm.

I’m irritated that I have to stop making plans for my new cat and pay attention to him again, but I wait like a nice, patient girl as he walks around to open my door.

As a sociopath Jane is always pretending and emulating others however in her revenge story she is pretending to be a meek and submissive girlfriend and she finds it tedious. We will get a dialogue with Jane and Steven that is sugar sweet and then Jane will share with the reader her real thoughts and sometimes they are just super funny. I really enjoyed that.

Another chapter that I found enjoyable - and this is the entire chapter:

My mom called again. I blocked her. Good riddance. This time in Minneapolis is really helping me work out my issues. I feel more in touch with my feelings already…. That was a joke.

I laughed out loud at this… her sarcasm and dark humour really gave me a giggle. I liked the writing style as well short and sharp and to the point. There was a little spice in this one - perhaps more than I would like because I am a bit of a prude when it comes to the sexual stuff but there was a reason for it - so I stayed the course.

Overall this will probably not rock your world… but for light entertainment I recommend it. Waiting for Jane to truly unleash revenge was pretty good this guy deserves everything he had coming and more… she was a master of making him suffer, call me a sadist but I enjoyed the bad bitches gonna get you storyline

Audiobook. Excellent performance. I couldn't wait to continue listening! Good story, too. Not much of a thriller, more of a revenge story, but what a revenge story it is. Protagonist is a sociopath and that is always fun.

The repetitive obnoxiousness of Stephen got grating after a while, but I suppose that is the point. And even so, both he and his repellent father were realistic portrayals of a certain kind of man.

It was very interesting to see the way Jane thinks and interprets the actions of others towards her. Steven infuriated me with how he spoke to her and found every chance to shame her body and decisions and I hoped that it would end with Jane revealing who she was and responding to some of the things he had said to her before just so I could see his reaction. Other than that, it was an intriguing book and a very fast read!
