Despite the fact that this book's final act felt rushed and ended on the world's most frustrating cliffhanger to tease for a spinoff ever, it's still worthy of standing among Renegades and Archenemies as one of the greats.

I started my journey with this trilogy (which I initially believed would only be a duology) incredibly apprehensive, but I was quickly and easily won over with Renegades and I've been hooked ever since.

I was really satisfied with how this book was going up until a certain part. I think it was inevitable, that everything had to explode the way it did, but I missed the slow, careful pacing of the first two books quite a lot. Gone was the lovely, methodical planning, sleuthing, and scheming and in its place was an abundance of battles and bombastic twists. Those battles and twists were earned, mind, which is why this is still a 5-star book. However, there was one battle that felt a little hollow for its twist
Spoilerthat being the attack on the arena
and one twist that felt very hollow and a little too, "buy the spinoff in Fall 2020!"

That all said, everything leading up to that final act was truly top notch. I really enjoyed the way everything with
SpoilerNightmare's capture
unraveled and where Nova's head was at during basically the whole book. Her arc is just...ah man, chef's kiss. Adrian's arc was a little less fulfilling, but I think the sacrifices he was willing to make in this book were really wonderful and telling of how far he's come as a person.

I mentioned in my review of the first book how much I enjoyed Nova and Adrian moving away from the Anarchist and Renegade labels and trying to become true neutral and I think how that resolves itself is extremely interesting and satisfying.

My only wish is that the final third of the book hadn't felt so rushed. I wish there had been better seeds planted for that epilogue. It felt so absolutely out of nowhere and it was jarring. I wanted my happy ending, I didn't want a teaser for "Coming Soon from Marissa Meyer." Even if this book had been marketed differently, instead of as the end of a trilogy and more of an end of an era thing that would close chapters for all our main characters while opening new ones for our future protagonists.

That all said, this was a really fun, entertaining, and exhilarating read and, even though I'm miffed with the exact way it was set up, I will be tuning in whenever that spinoff is published. As always, I'm eager to see what you do next, Marissa, but thanks for this super rad cast of characters and incredibly fun and rewarding series.

What was that epilogue though. This book was a roller coaster of emotions. I need a break.

“Everyone has a nightmare. He pressed his forehead against hers. Maybe I want you to be mine.” AHHHHHH

Near perfect. The pacing felt a little off at times, due to the amount of plot and actio this book managed to get through.
The attachment I felt for these characters really came through as I'm in near tears, heart racing as they're put through it and the suspense is incredible. While some of the plot twists were predicable (the parents murder for example), I was still caught by surprise by reveals like the epilogue.
Loved reading this book, and the series.

4.5 stars. This was so intense and it’s definitely an epic ending to an amazing trilogy.

It too me over a month to finish this book… thanks reading slump! I enjoyed it but definitely think my rating was affected by this! I liked how Nova got sprung out of prison and thought the attack on the arena was novel. I felt the attack at the end went on too long but I liked the conclusion for every character. I knew deep down Nova would do the right thing. The plot twist in the epilogue.. shocking but was it needed? Unless there’s gonna be another book to explore it then I’d say not.
