This book felt like a chore to read. It just felt long even though it's only about 300ish pages.
I did like Maia more in the book but the side characters didn't get enough action. I felt like I needed to care more about them in this book but they didn't get enough attention in the 1st book for me to truly care about them in the 2nd one. Edan also felt like a totally different character and he just felt like an incomplete character in the story since he was just focused on Maia.
I did like where the story was heading though...the problem is, it felt like some plot points were just dropped. For example, I kept wondering what happened to the tailored that had almost burned Maia in the 1st book. Then the whole plot of Maia and her scissors felt a bit disjointed along with the Bandur plot and the shansen. I feel like none of it really clicked that well but I can admire how the author tried her best to tie it all together.
Maybe I struggled to read this duology because I read SCC/TDP/HRC first and I practically devoured those books and had such a good time reading them. This duology was just ok.
