An enjoyable read as always. The series are not great in my opinion but they very entertaining and fun to read from time to time.

It would have been much better to read this prior to [b:The Legion|9356279|The Legion (Eagle, #10)|Simon Scarrow|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1328650595s/9356279.jpg|14239688]. Both because I had no idea what was going on in the later book when I read it and this time because I knew what the outcome would be already.

I find that I prefer the books in this series that have a little more of the political in them, rather than the all battle (or lead up to a battle) sequences such as this one. So, not the best in the series in my opinion but still with great characters and lots of good history.

Another interesting instalment in the series. If you have read this far, then you know what to expect, the main characters have not changed too much.

Seemed a bit formulaic at first, but did hot up halfway through. Poor Cato, always duty before marriage and domesticity.
I assume the story was left with a huge loose end to be continued in next book?

Same old Scarrow, still an entertaning and enjoyable read.
