A strange book, with a meandering plot that didn't really seem to know where it was going. I loved ST's relationship with Dennis and Big Jim, which were super sweet. And I liked his character growth as he came to accept his crow side and connect with other crows. I liked the concept of aura and echo. But I got a bit tired of the crude language, too much gore descriptions, and the plot didn't make a lot of sense. Why were the wolves against all other animals, when the rest seemed to be able to put aside their differences and band together? What was the virus that caused the zombie apocalypse for humans; it was suggested it was to do with screens, does this mean it supposedly was a computer virus that jumped to humans? The interludes with other animals didn't add a lot, except Genghis Cat defending his Orange.
And after Dennis pulled off the genius move to lure the changed ones into the lake to drown them, his downfall is due to a stationary UPS truck? Are you kidding me?? What the fuck. This felt like a cheap shot, and angered me too much to really connect with the emotion in the following scenes.
Overall many enjoyable parts, but didn't have a super coherent plot or message.
