Gina Gallo is the Goddaughter! She's also a gemologist and tries to not get involved with her "family's business". However when a job goes wrong she is called into action and drags along her friend, Pete, on what becomes the first date from hell.
I love funny fiction with Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams and Robert Asprin topping my all-time favorite authors. When I heard The Goddaughter was a "funny" story I couldn't resist giving this "Rapid Read" a try.
The Goddaughter was laugh-out-loud-with-side-splitting-humor-funny as the reader watches Gina and Pete try to carry out a job for her mob family, but everything goes all wrong. I couldn't stop laughing as every time they think they've got it sorted out, it all unravels. It could be the fact that Gina keeps thinking she had a "cunning plan".
Everytime I read "cunning plan" I thought of Black Adder.
As it turns out Gina's plan wasn't so cunning, but it didn't stop me from reading and laughing!
I loved the interaction between Gina, Pete and her family. It felt just like a mob family would react to the Goddaughter dating someone new.
I loved The Goddaughter and I can't recommend it enough for a short, funny summer reader. I can't wait for the sequel, The Goddaughter's Revenge, to be released in October, 2013.

I had a great time reading this short and funny book, Looking for a light read, fast paced story with a mystery thrown in and a "Goddaughter" that loves shoes. This is your book.

Rapid read is right! I think it took me 30 minutes. It was a cute little book. I liked the characters, and the author has a good sense of humour.
