This a collection of 14 short stories written when Capote was a young man and it's wonderful.

Each story has delightfully created characters, situations that are believable and capture the essence of the times.

It is exciting to hear Capote's voice at such an early age and it is not all perfect. That is okay as you can hear the development of many of his writing traits.

I was carried away in the descriptions, the anguish, the vindictiveness, the kindness, the humour, the desperation and the hope, that Capote invokes into the stories.

I struggled a little bit about this one, because most of these aren't really stories so much as short character sketches, but masterfully written. Apparently Capote wrote most of these stories during his teenage years, and they're brilliant, if not fully realized. This collection of stories represents the self-education of a brilliant young writer. Capote wrote one of my favorite stories in the book when he was only seventeen years old! Reading these stories, I felt jealous of Capote's luminous talent!

This is probably the most effective short story collection I have ever read. Not a word wasted, so much emotion packed into such small stories
