This book opens with Joan and Lola as 17 year old teenage girls. A lot of the book just consist of the girls growing up. It opens with them scheming old men out their money through the mail. Then Joan meets Reed at a party and after a one night stand gets pregnant by him and they marry. Only for her to quickly realize how truly incompatible she and Reed really are. Which is what starts her to getting on the sex club website and introduces Lola to it. Speaking of Lola, after Joan introduces her to the sex site SHE MEETS CALVIN! I was a little annoyed at first that Calvin wasn't introduced until damn near the end of the book, but it was good it was done this way because (because I've already read the second book in the series) I was able to get way more back story on the other characters (Lola, Joan, Reed, and Calvin) and better foundation for them in this book. It definitely makes the second book more understandable for me since I mistakenly read it first. It was good, I enjoyed this series as much as I've enjoyed Mary's others. Can't wait to read the last book and the little prequal.

This book was awful. It has been added to my DNF pile. The story keeps rehashing the same things over and over again, almost like the author had a page count she had to meet. The characters make no sense and honestly the fact that a 17 year old girl is having a baby and marrying a grown man is made to seem normal. It’s not! This isn't the 30’s where that was acceptable. This book takes place in modern times (they had cell phones), so no one would think its a good idea for a 17 year old in high school to marry a man who had clearly gone through college and dental school. These girls are doing way too much and are written as if they are grown women when they are teenagers. Honestly the way they are written is not the way teenagers act today. It’s like she was writing from the perspective of them being grown but just added their younger ages because in her mind she wanted them to be teens. I read the second book in this series not realizing it was a 3 part book. I backtracked to read this book before I tried the 3rd book. Lola is just dumb on all fronts and I was annoyed with her in the 2nd book, but trying to read this 1st book makes me even more annoyed with her. I am going to try the 3rd book just to see if I can round out this series, but I don't have much hope.

Book #20 done.

I did not like this at all. The narrators sounded like they were reading and I hated the characters and the “plot”. *sigh*

This is the first in a trilogy; ended in a cliffhanger; and the second book is even available in my library - I just don’t care to read it. Lola and Joan are annoying and stupid; their family members are caricatures and the plot is just asinine. DO NOT RECOMMEND! 😔

Ummm...I liked this book but I think it could have been better. The time periods were moving too fast for me. I liked the characters, but they both had flaws. The ending came too late and didn't have a chance to get fleshed out more. I think that should have been introduced earlier in the book.
