This book was really cute. Not a big fan of Sophie’s personality and how she kept dismissing Max’s feelings, but I get it.

A cute book about the great line “Does anyone know why these two should not be joined in marriage?”  I love that her books are set in Omaha and that people feel authentically Nebraskan to me. There is a little steam in this story.

I had to take a day or two to think about this book before I could write a review. I absolutely love Lynn Painter's YA books; the characters are always so witty and charming that I was excited to start reading this adult book by her. I was kind of disappointed then, when I realized the characters didn't have the same charm and loveability as her typical characters. The "not like other girls" vibes were so strong that I had to sit and think if I was projecting something onto the characters. This is my most hated characterization of women and have dnf'd books for describing the mfc this way. But I really think
Sophie was "not like other girls" without out-right saying it. She hates rom-coms, loves hot rods, favorite sport is football, amongst other things that I stopped paying attention to. She also decides to kiss "for herself" without thinking of the other person and states it's the best thing ever because it's as if "she is kissing herself". I think this was meant to seem profound but came off as weird and what any self-centered/selfish person probably does on dates anyways.
Despite the character flaws, I thought the premise of the story was cute and liked the objecting of weddings to get people out of cheating relationships. I also really loved how short the chapters were. They helped the book be a quick read despite struggling through some of the character downfalls.
