This started out slow, agonizingly so, but then it became so immersive that I didn't even care. I loved this world, and the audiobook narration was amazing! I actually got the kindle version toward the beginning so I could check up on some words that I couldn't understand, and would sometimes read instead of listen depending on where I was at the time. Pretty soon I couldn't stand reading bc I wanted that beautiful musical narration and it just wasn't the same without it.

For the longest time I didn't know who to side with. Jazmyne and Iraya were both so loveable in the beginning and both so flawed in their own ways. Each character felt so real and deep, even the side characters. Also, the prose was beautiful. I'm already on the the sequel.

Confusing and long. I was just trudging along having no idea what was happening. But it might be it’s because I listened to it as an audiobook

This took me forEVER. Things didn’t really start picking up until about 60% of the way through, and then it finally held my interest more. I didn’t see the switch-up coming! Now I’m questioning who to root for…

I was really looking forward to reading a Jamaican-inspired fantasy with witches and revenge with this story. But Witches Steeped In Gold was okay, not amazing for me. The most exciting part for me was the last 150 pages and that’s mostly because the majority of the story was difficult to follow in terms of what each protagonist was planning, who was Kirdan's love interest and the magic/fighting scenes. I give it a 3.5/5 because it's interesting but falls flat to even entice me to read the sequel.

I gave it a fair shot, but I'm really bored. The plot tried to start five times already and it's still stalling, I don't love the writing style, and I don't buy that the main character is in a life-or-death sitch when she is constantly making poor jokes.
