this was absolutely incredible. the author did such a fantastic job of telling tn story of the clotilda survivors with respect and dignity and complexity. will def be a foundational text going forward for the history of slavery

Impeccably researched and respectfully told, this is about the lives of enslaved people in America during the civil war and into the great depression. Stories from those who lived extraordinary lives, but who have ignored, until now.
