I didn't finish the book. I read the first 2 chapters and couldn't stand the family anymore. I don't like them enough to finish the book to find out what happens. The family comes off as "holier than thou" and all I can think is, well, do any of them own one of Ted's lamps? I don't blame him for not wanting what they have when they cannot appreciate him for who he is. If you love and care for him so, take an interest in him as a person not just as someone who needs to be saved. Ugh. And no, not everyone has a snake story to tell at funerals.

why i liked this book can be summarized by this quote found in the first couple chapters...
"fat people are harder to kidnap."
