This novella certainly held my attention and I’m glad I read it. It is a glimpse into a young woman’s first relationship with a woman and how it defined that point of her life. The relationship was exhausting even for me as a reader. Caldwell did a wonderful just of pulling the reader into this tumultuous affair. I also particularly enjoyed the passages about the main character’s relationship with her mother.

However, it ended very abruptly and in a way that had me flipping the page looking for more. I was certain I was missing a page from the book. But overall, I enjoyed.

Thank you to Harper Perrenial for this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

I read it almost in one go. I think it's one of those books of raw life and experience that you either hate or love.
I needed that representation and i think it's absolutely necessary to see more queer narratives. So I'm happy this book was written and that I read it.
It felt refreshing to read something harshingly realistic and honest. No sugar coating or detail sparing. Was good.

Heartbreakingly gay! A gut punch to anyone who has experienced a less-than-healthy sapphic relationship. The obsession, the shame, the lust. A young woman moves to a new town and starts an affair with a lesbian who is 19 years older (and in a relationship). The narrator didn't even realize she was queer prior to this relationship, so it's utterly devastating to see how much your identity can be wrapped up by someone else.
