The O'Sullivan Twins by Enid Blyton

Very similar to the first book, this one gave me lots of nostalgic feelings about my time in boarding school. However I didn't enjoy this one as much because there were too many fictitious scenarios.

Maybe not quite fictitious, but definitely over dramatic things that would not happen in real life. Things like a part of building burning down, one girl saving the other from said burning building. One girl never getting recognition from her father and another writting a letter to him that made him see sense. (That one is very cute tbf) Point is, I came here to read a cute story and reminiscence, not to read fantasy boarding school AU drama.

Speaking of drama, another thing that bothered me about this book was how characters seemed to be more and more stereotyped as time goes on. There were the goodies, the baddies and the 'misunderstood' - I realise this is a middle grade book written in the 1940s so I can't be too critical of this, but I don't really enjoy having to rely on stereotypes to bring characters to life.

Last gripe: although it's titled the O'Sullivan Twins, they're not the main focus of the story. Instead, we spend a lot of time with the other girls in their form, so this is an interesting naming choice from Enid.

Not bad, but I enjoyed the first book a bit more.

Another eventful term in St. Clare!

The second book was definitely better than the first. I was impressed with the character arcs and the plot twists. The O'Sullivan Twins exceeded my expectations. It is a fairly easy read, and even 9 year olds will enjoy it. I did feel that ...more
