Someone is out to kill Steve Carella's sister's husband-to-be on their wedding day. Steve and the detectives of the 87th Precinct must race against the clock to find the killer or killers during the wedding festivities. There seems to be more snark in this one than in some of the others and I am here for it! This one has plenty of laughs thrown in amongst the high stakes drama and I love the twist on the last page. There's nothing quite like walking  away from a police procedural with a grin. The only quibble I have is something I probably wouldn't notice if I wasn't binging the series. McBain feels the need to explain how Meyer Meyer got his name in every book and it is starting to get on my nerves.

This one completely breaks the formula of the previous books, with a few of the 87th's bulls working off duty to investigate threats against Carella's future brother in law (on the day of the wedding, no less). It's still an entertaining read, funny and pacy, but no up to the very high standard of the books that preceed it.

Potboiler set at the wedding of Steve Carella's sister and ending with Teddy having twins. Inessential.
