Everyone knows Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No-Good, Very Bad Day. What Keep Your Head Up does even better is how do you deal with the bad in a given day and, even when a meltdown happens, how do you make good decisions going forward. I love Charly Palmer's artwork and the expressiveness he puts in the faces and postures of his characters. even to the cloud of feeling "a little scrunchy" hovering over the kid.

My students have been enjoying this. The illustrations are beautiful and I think it’s a great story that teaches kids it’s okay to have bad days and to give yourself grace. It also spurred discussion on how to cope with your bad days.

I'm a big fan of Charly Palmer's illustrations!
Having a bad day is OK. Having a meltdown happens to us all. It's about a mindset/approach afterwards that matters. Trying to keep your head up. This book also shines a light on the teacher/adult role in kids having bad days, which is valuable for those in schools to read and remember.

D. is having a rough day. From the time he gets up all throughout his school day he is struggling to keep his head up. At some point D. has a "meltdown". The adults in his life help him to appreciate that it's not always easy to stay positive, but as long as you are willing to try it will all work out in the end. A great book for teachers and parents to start a dialogue with children about coping skills and self regulation.

WONDERFUL! This is an incredible book about feeling emotionally overwhelmed, and how all the little things can add up to a total meltdown. The text is fantastically sympathetic and sweet without being patronizing, and the illustrations are perfection. I LOVED this!
