I really enjoy kindle unlimited because I like to support authors who otherwise may never be traditionally published, but still have fun and interesting stories to tell. That said, this book had great heart but ultimately fell a bit short for me. The scene changes were often very abrupt, and the plot moved forward more than once with a throw away line that was also super abrupt and never given an explanation. I think with a strong editor and a few rounds of revisions, this could be a fantastic book. The characters are fun, the tropes are well established but not boring, and the core plot has potential. I'll be really interested to see where this author goes in the future, and at the end of the day I did have a fun time reading this.
