Despite being a little bit disjointed, this book is fantastically written with beautiful language. It is probably one of the most candid and vulnerable stories I have ever read. I think you can tell that Mishima was less experienced when he was writing this, as some parts drag, but the content is indisputably excellent. Mishima’s fixation on death reminds me a bit of Bataille, but his philosophies stray in a different direction. Overall, this was a great read that gave me a peek inside the author’s mind.

this took me a while to get through! not because i didn't enjoy reading it, but because it was just honest in a way that made me feel almost guilty for not giving it my undivided attention. mishima makes it hard to ever step away even when u've put the book down.
tucking my heart into the pages, alongside the one there now, until i'm ready to share in this ache again
