The book is written beautifully. The author does a great job at conveying emotions of deep repressed desires and how those sentiments manifest in a society focused on a finding a semblance of normalcy in the middle of a world war.
However, to me it loses points in terms of development: being a novel focused solely on one person and one particular theme, it can become quite pedantic to read.
