This book is a bit older (2002), so some of the info is dated.
Mostly the book explains the photographer’s thought process in preparing each image under the headings of Seeing, Thinking, and Acting. Basically this covers composition, type of lens, and sometimes exposure among other photography prep considerations.
Because the images were all from film cameras (mostly 35 MM and Medium Format) the photo data often doesn’t list the exposure information or actual focal length.
The first two parts cover Destinations (Lakes & Mountains, The Coast, Historic Buildings, Towns & Cities, and more) and People, Flora & Fauna. There are 2-4 photos per page with photo data and locations, and one will have the full Seeing, Thinking, Acting descriptions.
At the end of the book it covers some photography basics and cameras and equipment.
I’m hoping this will help me with some of my film photography and being a bit more intentional with my image preparations when I’m out exploring.
I didn’t care for the book’s layout. Overall the text was too small. It was distracting that random words were in a larger font within each paragraph, and often the order of text blocks didn’t flow naturally for me and I read the Acting part before the Thinking part. Some of the captions seemed like they could be better placed with their accompanying photo, instead of at a distance but with an arrow pointing back toward its photo.
