This book was a really cute YA romance read with a background setting of a fantasy book series being turned into a movie. Iris has been raised to hate the fantasy series her grandmother wrote, however, her younger brother Ryder adores it. Cue her dad sending her off to Ireland as her brother’s babysitting to the movie set. Iris is not thrilled about the situation, especially after meeting one of the leads, Eamon. However, as she spends more time on set, Iris learns to see different perspectives and come to understand why so many people loved her grandmother’s series. Along the way, Iris learns life lessons (rooted in feminism) from the female director and a queer lead actress. Her journey feels spot on for a seventeen-year-old and I loved that her brother also seemed to act his age of eight. Iris and Ryder both trauma in their past and they certainly strengthen their bond while in Ireland. Having visited Ireland, I wanted more descriptions of how beautiful it is, but for the sake of staying on plot, I understand some cuts. I loved how vivid all the side characters were and how they didn’t feel like afterthoughts. I wish their wasn’t a need for the savior at the end, but I did like the epilogue and how the story wrapped up. 4.25⭐️, 0.5🌶
